La Provisional, a musical and audiovisual project situated in Caracas, Venezuela, launched its first record production under the name Estación Espacial Caracas (Caracas Space Station). Each of the 12 tracks in this CD is a part of a retro-futuristic trip to Caracas City in the year 2100. Aesthetically speaking, the idea is to connect the '50s –'80s city to the city of the future by merging jazz with electronic genre, latin caribbean music and funk, which gives us a novel mix where we can find cha-cha-chas and mambos sung by robots or punk rock mixed with jazz, salsa and Atari video-game sounds. This multi-disciplinary band encompasses a diversity of influences such as the pop culture, modern architecture in Caracas, science-fiction retro movies, any existing or future musical genre, comics; interests that permeate its music and its visuals. This first CD was produced by the composer and guitarist Humberto Scozzafava with the participation of Glenn Tomassi on the saxophones and flute, José Ramoncini and Alain Henriot on the trumpets, David González on the trombone, and Gerardo López on the drums. Guitars, basses, keyboards and electronic programming were done by Humberto Scozzafava. Drums recordings were done by Francisco "Coco" Díaz at the Sonofolk Studios; brass recordings were done by Francisco González at Fidelis Studios. Mixing was done by Francisco "Coco" Díaz and mastering was done by Brian Gardner, an engineer who is renowned throughout the world for his work with artists such as Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Herbie Hancock, Queen, Depeche Mode, Sting, Beastie Boys, U2, to mention just a few. The art for the CD is the work of a Peruvian-Venezuelan plastic artist, Yitzhak Fowks Zamalloa.
